How can you organize your home to keep it clean and orderly every day? Which products to use? With Impec, we’ll show you how to plan your cleaning routine and enjoy your weekends!
Household chores can sometimes be particularly stressful, especially in families where both parents work and don’t have time to dedicate to cleaning every day. Waiting until the weekend to tidy up, clean, disinfect, and freshen the house can be exhausting, which is why planning is crucial.
Regardless of your daily constraints, here are some tips to help you stop stressing about cleaning and save time.
MAKE A TASK LIST
The first step in managing your cleaning effectively is to list all the tasks to be done in detail. For this step, you’ll need your notebook and pen to jot down:
Daily chores: such as washing dishes, cleaning the kitchen and countertops, sweeping the house, making beds, airing out the house, etc.
Weekly household tasks: including cleaning and disinfecting bathrooms, dusting furniture, mopping the floor, changing linens, doing laundry, ironing, etc.
Monthly tasks: like cleaning windows, the fridge, and the inside of the oven, dusting light fixtures, dusting the mattress, disinfecting mop heads and sponges, etc.
METHODICAL APPROACH
Now that you have a clear idea of the urgent and less urgent tasks to be done each day, you need to tackle them gradually. In practice, it’s not always easy to evenly distribute household chores and stick to the weekly schedule. The simplest approach is to chip away at them bit by bit every day, starting with the most urgent tasks like doing the dishes or airing out rooms, for example. Take the opportunity to purify the air with an essential oil air purifier to ensure you eliminate any potential airborne viruses.
Allocate an average of 15 minutes each day to the other tasks usually reserved for the weekend to save time. Before or after work, you can tidy up clutter, take out the trash, check for expired food in the fridge, clean a few windows or mirrors, iron some clothes, etc.
To avoid fatigue and have time for other activities, consider using a timer. If you’ve decided to tackle micro-tasks for 15 minutes each day, and one isn’t finished within that time, you can pick it up again the next day.
Likewise, you can spare yourself a whole weekend of chores by tackling the most difficult tasks first, as you’ll usually have enough energy and motivation for them. The simpler chores require less energy, so you’ll be sure to finish them. You can even postpone them if necessary; there’s no need to pressure yourself.
Finally, since living areas like the living room and dining room are the most frequented, you should always prioritize them. Save cleaning the bedrooms for the weekend, even dedicating a Saturday to each room if time is tight.
EQUIP YOURSELF
Effective cleaning requires good organization and the use of the right products. We’ve already listed 5 products you must have at home for an impeccable house.
In addition to those, add dishwasher detergent to clean cutlery effectively, multi-purpose soap-paste to shine tiles, pots, and other surfaces, a descaler to disinfect bathrooms, wax polish to polish parquet floors, etc.
Besides products, make sure you have all the necessary equipment to clean effectively:
- A duster for dusting
- Microfiber cloths in different colors for various uses (yellow for showers and pink for mirrors and windows, for example)
- A toilet brush
- A mop and its special bucket for floor cleaning
- Sponges for the kitchen and bathroom. It’s strongly advised not to use an old sponge that’s no longer used in the kitchen for bathroom cleaning, as oil residues can make floors and joints greasy.
