There’s nothing more disruptive than guests arriving at the last minute, especially if the house is still upside down. And yet, it’s a situation that many of us will have to face sooner or later. After all, you can’t plan for everything in life!

However, it’s possible to do a quick clean in 10 to 20 minutes, just long enough for your visitors to make their way to your home. While your guests won’t be able to see the dust accumulated under your sofa, they won’t be able to miss the toys and clothes lying around, or the musty smell if you haven’t opened the windows yet. A little tidying up is essential, if only for a few minutes!

Focus on your living room

The living room is where you’ll be entertaining your guests. That’s why it needs your undivided attention. The first thing to do is tidy up. It’s simple: spot anything that doesn’t belong in this room and remove it from there: whether it’s toys, laundry, shoes lying around under the furniture, etc. Simply transfer them to another room. Simply move them to another room (preferably a closed one) and declutter the living room. To speed things up, you can also use an empty laundry basket to collect all the unwanted items in the living room. Then hide it in your bedroom. You can store the contents later.

Take the opportunity to pat down the cushions and put decorative accessories back in their place if they’ve been moved. Remote controls lined up neatly on the coffee table and a vase of flowers in the right place can make all the difference! Take our word for it!

Dust and sweep

The priority is to sweep first, as dust is not immediately noticeable unless it has accumulated in a thick layer on your furniture. To save time, you can even skip the sweeping stage and go straight to mopping. The trick is to just dampen the mop so as not to over-wet the floor and produce the opposite effect by soiling it with your soles.

Note that the tip is also suitable for wood or plywood floors, as you can use a polishing product to restore the shine to your floor covering in just a few minutes. This tip will work best if you polish your floor frequently and if it’s not too dirty.

Wet sweeping is also a good way to avoid kicking up dust when cleaning the floor, and to avoid depositing even more dust on your furniture.
