How do you care for your skin and hair in winter? What products should you use?
Dry skin, cracked hands and feet, rough hair… these are all signs that winter is here, and that low temperatures are taking their toll on the body. If there’s ever a time when the skin deserves all our attention, it’s winter, because the cold is a real enemy for skin health.
That’s why it’s so important to pamper yourself with cocooning skin care products. Moisturization is the watchword, and you need to opt for rich care products that protect the skin against the onslaught of the cold.
Focus on a few cocooning beauty care you can do at home to face winter.
Moisturizing the skin
Skin dryness tends to be exacerbated when temperatures are at their lowest. It is further aggravated by cold air, wind and layers of covering clothing that irritate the skin.
It is therefore highly recommended to thoroughly moisturize the skin every morning and at night before going to bed. While normal to combination skin can be satisfied with moisturizing creams, dry skin needs to be deeply nourished with a nourishing plant oil such as shea oil. Applying a little nourishing shea oil Tsara before your moisturizer provides the extra moisture your skin needs in cold weather.
In the evening, forget make-up remover lotion and opt for a rich yet gentle oil instead to cleanse the face. Sweet almond oil is particularly suitable for an evening beauty routine.
Finally, for the shower, opt for a cleansing and moisturizing product that leaves skin soft and smooth after washing. Choose a shower gel with an extra-gentle formula that leaves a moisturizing film on the skin after rinsing.
Care for cracked heels
Some skins are more sensitive to the cold than others, and therefore require in-depth care. This is true of dry skin, which tends to tighten and crack under the effect of the cold. The heel is particularly hard hit, and can develop unsightly cracks that become more pronounced if left unattended.
After a bath or shower, apply a thick layer of Vaseline to deeply moisturize and nourish the skin. Then protect your feet with socks or tights. If you do this every day, the cracks will gradually disappear and the skin will become softer.
Exfoliating and moisturizing lips
Lips are another part of the body that deserves extra attention in winter. Because of the wind and cold, they crack and get chapped more easily. So it’s essential to keep them well moisturized, using a nourishing lip balm or even Vaseline, which is also indicated for lip care.
They also need to be exfoliated every week to remove dead skin cells and restore their softness. A little Vaseline mixed with powdered sugar is all that’s needed. After gently rubbing this mixture into the lips, wipe them dry and apply balm or Vaseline before your usual lipstick.
Oil bath for hair
An oil bath is more essential than ever for the scalp during the winter months, as it also suffers from the aggression of wind and cold.
It is highly recommended to use a blend of nourishing oils such as coconut, shea and castor to meet the hydration needs of the hair fiber.
As for shampooing, this should be limited to once a week when it’s too cold to prevent hair from becoming rough and brittle. Protective hairstyles such as braids or glued braids are more than advisable in winter to protect hair from the cold.
Moisturizing hand care
Moisturizing hand care is ideal for keeping hands soft and moisturized in the dead of winter. Once or twice a week, every evening, you should generously coat your hands with Vaseline before wrapping them in plastic gloves for about thirty minutes.
Once the product has been thoroughly absorbed, rinse with lukewarm water and apply a nourishing shea or sweet almond oil to complete the treatment.
Don’t hesitate to put on thick gloves to protect your hands when you’re out and about, especially if it’s very cold outside.
