Heat can be a source of discomfort on a daily basis, especially at this time of the year when the sun is particularly strong. One of the most notorious of these discomforts is perspiration, which affects anyone in the least bit healthy. In fact, perspiration is a perfectly natural reaction. Its role is to regulate body temperature and evacuate toxins from the body through the skin’s pores.
Nevertheless, sweat can be a nuisance, especially when it’s heavy and smelly.
Natural remedies are available to reduce excessive perspiration and effectively eliminate the bad smell it can cause.
Coconut oil as the main ingredient in a homemade deodorant. Coconut oil is a particularly popular ingredient in natural beauty products, especially toothpastes and deodorants. Thanks to its antifungal and antibacterial properties, this oil acts against the bacteria responsible for the bad smell produced by perspiration.
To use coconut oil to reduce perspiration and eliminate bad smell, simply follow the recipe below:
Mix :
- 100 g VAO coco
- 100 g beeswax
- 40 g baking soda
- 40 g cornstarch
- 10 drops lavender essential oil or lemon juice.
Form a paste from all the ingredients and brush over your armpits every day. While coconut oil and essential oil or lemon will neutralize the smell, starch will prevent excessive perspiration.
Note that hair can be a true breeding ground for bacteria. That’s why we strongly advise you to wax your armpits if you suffer from excessive perspiration in this area.
White clay to reduce perspiration on hands and feet
Foot perspiration is a problem that affects many people. It’s particularly uncomfortable, and can be the cause of the unpleasant smell that feet give off when they’re locked in shoes for too long.
White clay has purifying, astringent and absorbent properties that are very useful in combating excessive sweating of the arches and toes. It can be used as is on the feet. Simply rub it in vigorously after bathing or washing, then wipe off the excess with a clean towel. You can even sprinkle it on the inside of the shoe to combat excessive sweating. Remember to empty the shoe before putting them on. Last but not least, wear cotton socks, which are more effective at wicking away moisture and limiting bad smells.
This solution also works against clammy hands, a sign of stress or nervousness for some of us. So you don’t have to keep wiping your hands with a tissue, you can sprinkle them with white clay. You should also take care to keep your hands hygienically clean, using a hand-washing liquid to wash them. As white clay is not a practical product to take with you everywhere, you can opt for hydroalcoholic gel or wipes, which also keep hands clean and dry all day long, as well as eliminating bacteria and viruses that can be transmitted or contracted through contact. By opting for a gel enriched with aloe vera or essential oils, you’ll avoid drying out your skin after each disinfection. Remember that alcohol tends to dry out hands when used too often.
Jojoba oil and baking soda to combat scalp perspiration
In some people, sweat can be particularly profuse on the scalp. This is due to impurities, sebum, dead skin and hair product residues deposited on the skin. They clog pores and lead to excessive perspiration in hot weather.
The unpleasant sensation of sweat on the scalp can be avoided by regular exfoliation. This action activates the skin’s microcirculation and reduces perspiration secretion. It also has the added benefit of promoting hair growth.
Jojoba oil and baking soda are the key ingredients in this hair scrub recipe. Mix in a bowl:
- 1 tablespoon baking soda ;
- 1 tablespoon jojoba oil
- 2 drops lavender essential oil.
Massage the paste into your wet scalp, using circular movements for a few minutes. Rinse with warm water and wash your hair with your usual shampoo.
