Like hygiene and physical activity, beauty care is an effective way of preserving our physical appearance. Whatever products you use to care for your skin and hair on a daily basis, the best way to get results is to use them often. In fact, this is the very reason for the term “beauty routine”, which implies the regular application of beauty care.
Practically speaking, how often should you carry out the various beauty treatments for skin and hair?
We’ll guide you through the various beauty routines you need to follow.
Shampoo: 1 to 3 times a week at most
The number of shampoos you need depends on 2 factors: the type of hair you have and how dirty it is. If you have “normal” hair that doesn’t suffer from dandruff or excess sebum, one wash a week may be more than enough to keep it clean.
However, you can increase this frequency to 3 times a week if you suffer from dandruff or oily hair. In this case, we recommend washing with a purifying shampoo such as Vao Mint Shampoo, to cleanse the scalp.
Similarly, if you use leave-in products, you can also wash your hair more often to avoid weighing it down and building up residue on the scalp.
Whatever your hair type, hairdressers advise against shampooing every day, as this attacks the sebaceous glands and leads to dry lengths over time..
Exfoliation: once or twice a week
Exfoliation removes the dead cells that pile up on the skin as the epidermis renews itself. In a way, it “boosts” this natural process, leaving the skin smoother and more radiant.
Since the skin’s cell renewal cycle lasts 28 days, it is ideal to exfoliate once a week, especially if you use a formula containing abrasive grains that remove dead cells.
For mature skin or skin with an oily tendency, this frequency can be increased to 2 times a week, but only over a defined period to avoid damaging the skin’s hydrolipidic film. In this case, we also recommend using a scrub enriched with fruit acids or enzymes, which is better suited to sensitive skin.
Note that these tips also apply to body exfoliation performed in the shower.
Facial mask: once a week
A face mask is an in-depth skin care product designed to care for and protect the skin against the aggressions it suffers on a daily basis. Pollution is one of the main causes of these attacks, and can lead to skin dryness and overproduction of sebum.
Applying a face mask every week purifies and cares for the skin by “nourishing” it with active ingredients.
For a face mask to be effective, it’s very important to choose one that addresses the skin’s specific problems. You’ll find all kinds of masks on the market designed to purify, moisturize, lift, and rebalance and more. All you need to do is choose wisely!
Finally, make sure you also apply the mask to the neck when you do your weekly skin care routine.
Moisturizer: every day
The skin needs to be nourished on a daily basis to better cope with external aggressions. Day cream, night cream and body moisturizer must therefore be applied every day, without fail.
Take the time to massage the cream into your skin after a shower to help the active ingredients penetrate. If you have particularly dry skin, don’t hesitate to apply this treatment twice a day, targeting the most affected areas such as hands and feet.
Peel: twice a week for a limited time
More than just a treatment, a peel is a genuine rejuvenating treatment that can be performed in a single application. In the past, peels were performed exclusively in salons, but now they can be performed at home, thanks to the free acid-based products available on the market.
Although these products are less aggressive, their use should be limited to twice a week only. It’s best to wait 1 to 3 months before starting a new peel, as its components can increase skin sensitivity to the sun’s rays and other external aggressions.
