Hair loss is a hair problem that many of us experience on a daily or periodic basis.
Losing hair while styling is normal, as hair has a life cycle: it grows, lives and eventually dies by falling out when keratin production stops. This cycle lasts between 3 and 7 years, so there’s no need to worry about losing twenty or so hairs a day.
Hair loss can be more severe depending on the season, between March-April and September-October. Strong sunlight or a sudden drop in temperature can also lead to more extensive hair loss. Factors such as pregnancy, stress, fatigue or menopause can also cause temporary hair loss. On the other hand, if hair loss leads to balding in certain areas of the head, medical treatment may be necessary.
Temporary hair loss, on the other hand, can be reversed with the following tips.
Use castor oil
Castor oil is the ally of hair loss. Thanks to its richness in fatty acids and vitamin E, as well as its antifungal and antibacterial properties, this oil stimulates scalp microcirculation, promoting hair growth and reducing hair loss at the same time.
These characteristics make this oil ideal for preventing and even combating temporary hair loss. To do this, we recommend using it in your home hair care recipes. For example, you can use it as a hair mask by mixing it with garlic: crush 3 cloves of garlic and steep in castor oil for around ten days in a cool, dark place. Then filter your macerate to remove the garlic, and apply it to your scalp with an applicator. Leave overnight, then rinse thoroughly with clean water before shampooing the following day.
To enjoy all the benefits of this oil, choose an organic oil like the Tsara brand.
Rosemary, in its shape and form
Rosemary is an aromatic plant with revitalizing properties that is also indicated for combating hair loss and boosting hair growth. It works by stimulating hair follicles, cleansing the scalp of dandruff which tends to suffocate it, and strengthening the scalp.
You can easily find it at the market from vegetable sellers, and just like castor oil, use it to make homemade hair care products. In fact, you can make an oily macerate from rosemary sprigs and castor oil, and leave it to steep for a month. To prevent rancidity, add a few drops of vitamin E.
You can also make a rosemary rinse by boiling 3 tablespoons of rosemary in a liter of water. This water can be used as a final rinse after shampooing to stimulate hair growth.
You can also mix rosemary essential oil into the vegetable oils you normally use to style your hair. In addition to promoting hair growth, rosemary also prevents the appearance of gray hair and adds volume.
Avoid accessories and hairstyles that pull on the hair
In winter, we usually style our hair in braids and plaits to protect it from the cold, which is fine. However, it’s important to make sure that these styles don’t pull on the hairline, as they tend to fall out more easily. For this reason, avoid tight ponytails, braids that are too small, buns… and instead opt for glued braids, which are less aggressive.
It’s also advisable to avoid hair accessories that pull on the hair: headbands, too-small elastics, curlers… It’s better to use satin scrunchies and soft hair clips that hold the hair in place without damaging the scalp.
A balanced diet
Diet has a major influence on hair health, which is why it’s so important to ensure a balanced diet. Foods rich in zinc (seafood, red meat, dried beans…) and vitamin B (dairy products, fish, meat…) are recommended, as they promote hair growth.
