Layering is a beauty care method that has gained in popularity around the world in recent years. This beauty routine comes to us from the Asian countries, particularly Japan and Korea, where facial care rhymes with product layering. In fact, Asian women superimpose several products in a very precise order on their face to maintain a radiant, healthy complexion.
While a little time-consuming, this beauty routine fortunately offers the advantage of being effective in nourishing, moisturizing and protecting the skin against various external aggressions.
How to proceed with layering?
Here are the steps you need to follow for a proper layering routine on the face.
Step 1: Make-up removal
The first step in layering is make-up removal, which you can’t skip even if you don’t wear make-up, as it removes all the dirt and residue that clings to the skin throughout the day. Ideally, layering should be carried out in the evening for best results on the skin.
To do this, you need to use a fatty substance, which is more effective at removing traces of make-up and dirt. The most recommended product for make-up removal is organic vegetable oil, which is neutral and gentle.
Make sure you choose the right oil for your skin type! Oily skin, for example, needs a non-comedogenic oil such as jojoba oil, sesame oil and hazelnut oil.
If you have fragile skin, apply the oil to your face with your fingers before wiping with absorbent cotton or a soft make-up remover pad.
Once you’ve applied the cleansing oil, massage it into your skin to dissolve make-up, then rinse off with plenty of clear water. Then gently wipe off with a cotton pad or make-up remover pad and rinse one last time.
Step 2: Cleansing
The second step is to cleanse the skin of deposits and residues accumulated on the epidermis. The layering method requires the use of a gentle product, such as a cold-saponified soap, a superfatted soap or a gentle cleansing cream, which will remove excess make-up oil without aggressing the skin. Always remember to use circular movements on the face to remove all residues.
Step 3: Lotion or floral water
The next step after facial cleansing is purification. To do this, you need to use a floral water, such as rose water, or tonic lotion, which eliminates limescale residues deposited on the skin during cleansing. This action restores the skin’s radiance.
Step 4: The serum
The serum is a targeted skincare product that you should choose according to your skin’s problems. At this stage of the layering process, you need to target your skin’s main problems, such as:
- Acne;
- Spots ;
- Redness ;
- Wrinkles ;
- Acne scars.
You therefore need to ensure that your product contains all the active ingredients your skin needs. Note that serums are non-rinse-off products.
Step 5: Eye contouring
The eye contour is an area of the face often marked by fatigue. What’s more, the skin around the eyes is thinner than the rest of the face, so it’s also important to use a targeted skin care product to take care of it. The layering method involves applying an eye contour treatment with a gel or cream texture to moisturize and reduce signs of fatigue, puffiness and dark circles. It also protects the skin from the signs of premature aging.
Step 6: Moisturizing cream
The final step in layering is to apply a moisturizing cream, day or night, to provide all the nutrients the skin needs to protect itself from external aggressors. If you perform your routine at night, the moisturizing product you use will have the role of helping skin cells regenerate while you sleep. As with the serum, you can choose the cream according to your skin’s needs.
